Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup whole milk

3 ½ teaspoons baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

4 large eggs

2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced

1 cup heavy whipping cream

2 tablespoons powdered sugar

Additional strawberries for garnish

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops with a spatula.

Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool for 10 minutes in the pans before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

While the cakes are cooling, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of whipped cream over the top and add sliced strawberries.

Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides with the remaining whipped cream. Decorate with additional strawberries on top.

Slice and serve! Enjoy your beautiful strawberry shortcake!
