Ingredients

1 cup orzo pasta

2 cups water or chicken broth

1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

½ cup cream cheese, softened

½ cup milk

1 teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

¼ cup breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)

2 tablespoons butter

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Cook the Orzo: In a medium pot, bring the water or chicken broth to a boil. Add the orzo and cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Prepare the Cheese Sauce: In the same pot over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the softened cream cheese, stirring until it starts to melt.

Mix in Dairy: Gradually pour in the milk, stirring continuously until fully combined. Allow the mixture to heat through until it’s bubbly.

Add Seasonings: Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth.

Incorporate Cheeses: Lower the heat and add the shredded cheddar cheese to the sauce, stirring until it is completely melted and creamy.

Combine Everything: Add the cooked orzo to the cheese sauce, stirring until the pasta is well coated with the cheese mixture.

Optional Topping: If you like a crunchy texture, place the orzo mac and cheese in a greased baking dish, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top, and bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 10 minutes.

Serve and Garnish: Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley for a pop of color.
