Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1 pound Italian sausage

1 onion, chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

28 ounces crushed tomatoes

6 ounces tomato paste

2 teaspoons dried basil

2 teaspoons dried oregano

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon black pepper

15 ounces ricotta cheese

1 egg

3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

12 lasagna noodles, cooked and drained

Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, Italian sausage, onion, and garlic over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.

Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes.

In a bowl, mix the ricotta cheese with the egg and a pinch of salt.

Spread a layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a baking dish.

Layer 3 lasagna noodles, half of the ricotta mixture, a third of the mozzarella, and a layer of meat sauce. Repeat the layers, finishing with meat sauce and a generous amount of mozzarella and Parmesan on top.

Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Let it cool for 15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil leaves.
