2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

2 ½ tsp baking powder

½ tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

2 cups granulated sugar

4 large eggs

1 cup buttermilk

1 tsp vanilla extract

Zest of 2 lemons

Juice of 1 lemon

Optional: Fresh lemon slices and edible flowers for decoration

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Mix in buttermilk, vanilla extract, lemon zest, and lemon juice.

Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.

Divide batter evenly among prepared pans and smooth the tops.

Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Frost with your favorite lemon frosting and decorate with lemon slices and edible flowers as desired.
