Ingredients

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 medium onion, chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes

2 tablespoons tomato paste

1 teaspoon dried basil

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon sugar (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

Sauté Aromatics: In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Add Tomatoes: Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir well. Add the tomato paste to thicken the sauce.

Season: Sprinkle in the dried basil, oregano, sugar (if using), salt, and pepper. Stir to combine all ingredients evenly.

Simmer: Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Reduce heat to low and let it cook uncovered for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens to your liking.

Garnish & Serve: Remove from heat, taste, and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve hot over your favorite pasta, garnished with fresh basil leaves.
