Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup whole milk

3 large eggs

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

Preheat Your Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 4-5 minutes.

Add Eggs: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture into the butter-sugar mixture, alternating with the whole milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined; be careful not to overmix.

Fold in Nuts: If using, gently fold in the chopped walnuts until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool: Once done, remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer to a wire rack to cool fully.

Serve: Once the cake is cooled, dust with powdered sugar if desired, slice into squares, and enjoy this delightful treat!
