Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)

2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)

1 ½ tsp salt

1 tbsp sugar

2 tbsp olive oil

Extra flour for dusting

Instructions

In a small bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center, then add the yeast mixture and olive oil.

Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Punch down the dough and divide it into two equal portions. Shape each piece into a loaf and place them into greased loaf pans.

Cover the loaves with a cloth and let them rise for another 30-40 minutes. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Optionally, make diagonal slashes on the top of each loaf with a sharp knife for decoration.

Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.

Allow to cool on a wire rack before slicing and enjoy!
