Ingredients
  

6-8 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)

1 cup granulated sugar

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 cup all-purpose flour or cornstarch

2 tablespoons unsalted butter (optional)

Pinch of salt

Instructions
 

Start by peeling, coring, and slicing the apples into thin wedges.

    In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples with lemon juice to prevent browning.

      In another bowl, mix granulated sugar, flour/cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

        Pour the dry mixture over the apples and toss until evenly coated.

          Let the mixture sit for about 10-15 minutes for juices to release.

            If desired, add small dots of butter over the top of the filling.

              Pour the apple filling into your prepared pie crust and follow your favorite pie baking instructions.
