2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)

Pink and red sanding sugar or sprinkles for decoration

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

    Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

      Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

        Add Egg and Extracts: Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until well combined.

          Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not over mix. The dough will be soft.

            Chill the Dough: Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or until firm. If you have more time, chilling overnight will enhance the flavors.

              Roll and Cut: Once chilled, take the dough out of the fridge. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough to about ¼ inch thickness. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out cookies and place them on the prepared baking sheets.

                Decorate: Sprinkle the cookies with pink and red sanding sugar or sprinkles to add a festive touch.

                  Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

                    Cool Down: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
