1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed)

4 oz. sliced ham (preferably smoked)

4 oz. shredded cheese (cheddar or Gruyère)

1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)

1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp black pepper

Sesame seeds (for topping)

Instructions
 

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet into a rectangle, about 1/8 inch thick.

      Cut the pastry into strips approximately 1 inch wide and 6 inches long.

        Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on half of each pastry strip (optional), then layer slices of ham and shredded cheese on top.

          Fold the other half of each strip over the filling and press down gently to seal. Twist the strips to create a spiral shape.

            Arrange the twisted sticks on the prepared baking sheet, brushing each with the beaten egg to give them a beautiful golden color.

              Sprinkle garlic powder, black pepper, and sesame seeds over the tops of the sticks for added flavor.

                Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and flaky.

                  Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving warm.
