Ingredients

1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled

2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (e.g., Kahlúa), optional

3 large egg yolks

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1 cup mascarpone cheese, softened

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

24 ladyfingers (savoiardi)

Unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting

Dark chocolate shavings, for garnish

Instructions

In a shallow dish, combine the brewed coffee and coffee liqueur (if using). Set aside.

In a medium bowl, beat the egg yolks and granulated sugar together until pale and creamy, about 3-5 minutes.

Add the mascarpone cheese to the egg mixture and gently fold until smooth and well combined.

In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.

Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture, being careful not to deflate it.

Dip each ladyfinger briefly into the coffee mixture, ensuring they soak up some liquid but do not become too soggy.

Layer half of the soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of a small serving dish or two individual dessert cups.

Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the layer of ladyfingers.

Repeat with the remaining ladyfingers, dipping them in the coffee again, and top with the remaining mascarpone mixture.

Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for the best flavor.

Before serving, dust the top generously with cocoa powder and sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings for an elegant touch.
