1 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup cornstarch

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 cups whole milk

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup heavy whipping cream (for topping)

Instructions
 

In a medium saucepan, whisk together brown sugar, cornstarch, and salt until well combined.

    Gradually add the whole milk to the dry ingredients while whisking continuously to avoid lumps.

      Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and starts to bubble.

        Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract until smooth.

          Pour the pudding into individual serving dishes or a large bowl, cover with plastic wrap (pressing it directly onto the surface to prevent a skin), and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

            Before serving, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form and dollop on top of the chilled pudding.
