The history of the banana split dates back to the early 20th century, with its origins often credited to Pennsylvania. It is said that a pharmacy owner, David Strickler, invented the dessert in 1904 while experimenting with ice cream flavors. Strickler's creation quickly gained popularity among college students at a nearby university, and the banana split became a staple on dessert menus across the nation.
