Brownies have a rich history that dates back to the late 19th century. Although the exact origin is somewhat murky, they are believed to have been created in the United States, possibly by a housewife who forgot to add baking powder to her chocolate cake batter. The result was a dense, chewy treat that quickly gained popularity. Today, brownies come in various forms, from fudgy to cakey, and can be found in countless variations that cater to every taste.

Ingredients

1 cup fresh blackberries

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9 inch baking pan.

In a mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, granulated sugar, and eggs. Mix until well combined.

Add in the vanilla extract and stir.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, and salt. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until evenly combined.

Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.

In another bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and lemon juice until smooth and creamy.

Dollop the cream cheese mixture over the brownie batter and swirl it gently with a knife.

Scatter the fresh blackberries on top of the cream cheese layer, then pour the remaining brownie batter over it, spreading it to cover the blackberries.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Allow to cool in the pan before cutting into squares and serving.
